At St George's, we believe that learning about world faiths is essential in our diverse community. By exploring different beliefs, we foster understanding and respect, aligning with our Mission Statement: “We are learning and growing together as God’s family. We will always do our best to love and respect each other as we prepare for our future.” Embracing the rich tapestry of faiths around us not only enhances our education but also strengthens our bonds with the wider community.

Year 5 Judaism Sacred scripture from world faiths |
RED Branch Six Dialogue and Encounter Knowledge Lens: Encounter By the end of this unit of study, pupils will have encountered the following: • That the Tanakh (or Hebrew Bible) uses different names for God, to express different aspects of His nature (see e.g., https://bje.org.au/knowledge-centre/ Jewish-prayer/ names-for-god/). • That the Shema prayer is the basic creed of Judaism. It encapsulates the intrinsic unity of the world and its Creator. • Use specialist vocabulary to describe some Jewish beliefs expressed in the Shema prayer (‘Hear Oh Israel – the Lord our God, the Lord is One’). • A mezuzah as it contains the Shema prayer and on the box is the letter ‘Shin’ or sometimes the whole word ‘Shaddai’ meaning mighty, (i.e., God is strong/almighty/powerful) on the mezuzah case. |

Teaching World Faiths
Our Year 5 students have embarked on an enriching exploration of Islam as part of our Religious Education curriculum. Guided by our commitment to comprehensive learning, our students delve into the teachings of the Qur'an, explore the significance of prayer rituals, and learn about the rich history and values that guide the lives of millions around the world. Through interactive sessions, they also get an opportunity to appreciate the diverse cultural practices associated with Islam, from its art and literature to its traditions and festivals.
Synagogue Workshops
Year 3, 4 and 5 had wonderfully informative workshops from Rabbi Zvi. Rabbi Zvi gave children an insight into the Synagogue and Jewish beliefs, making links to our own faith.
